Micro-Sculptures

Brooches

These wearable brooches can be worn on the label of your best jacket, over coat or blazer.  They can also be converted into a necklace if you choose.  They can be left as personal wall hangings to be enjoyed in small places in your special space at home or office. I am happy to make them into necklaces upon purchase.

antique combinations

These brooches are handmade with a wide variety of findings.  Most combine brass, glass beads, unusually shaped objects as well as verge fussee pocket watch parts.  They are made in France, Switzerland, and England. These parts are hand engraved circa 1760’s which I have collected over the years.

design

Each creation starts with a special pin that I select for its shape, color, and characteristics.  From there I choose special .05mm thread to created the intricate weaving upon which the findings are laced into the design.  Some designs incorporate naturalistic materials such as sodalite, moon, and amethyst stones, mother-of-pearl beads, and carved shells.

These micro-sculptures are featured in an Exchange Exhibition in Omachi, Japan (a Sister City with Mendocino, California) — part of a fifteen year tradition of sharing art and ideas — scheduled for September 2025.
